When It Rains It Pours

What a soggy morning, Reader!

Sorry for the delay on today's message—we got back later than I anticipated from delivering steers to the butcher this morning. Ever notice how life doesn’t just hand us one thing at a time? It seems to come in waves. The old saying is true: when it rains, it pours.

This morning it was literal, too. We loaded steers in a downpour, after an extra-early milking in a thunderstorm to care for my Brown Swiss who calved over the weekend—right in the midst of a big family reunion here at the farm. It’s funny how blessings and busyness often come hand in hand.

It made me think of the verse in Ecclesiastes: “To everything there is a season.” Some seasons are slow and gentle. Others are full to the brim—like now, as we get beef shares ready for the families who reserved them. (If you did, expect an email from me this week!)

Even in the running, God has a way of reminding us of His goodness. For me, it was the joy of gathering with so many wonderful extended family members, sharing memories and showing them around the farm. And then, of course, Raspberry—my first and favorite cow—who once again surprised me with a perfect calf, a beautiful little girl. Raspberry has been steady and faithful for years, and her new calf feels like a fresh sign of provision.

And that gift flows outward too: Raspberry’s milk is abundant, creamy, and nourishing. I’ll have more than enough to share in the coming weeks once her calf has had the first milk. If you’ve been thinking about adding raw milk to your family’s rhythm, this is the perfect time to begin. I have a few spots open and would love to send some of this goodness home with you.

Even when life is pouring down, the Lord is pouring out blessings, too. Sometimes the challenge and the gift arrive in the very same rainstorm.

With gratitude,
Leah
