Hashbrown the barn cat leads the way!

Hey there Reader, I am so happy you are starting your week here with me!

This past weekend was such a joy. Many of you came out for your beef share pick-ups, and I loved meeting some of you for the very first time. It’s uplifting to experience our farm through your eyes—the personal memories different sights, smells, and sounds stirs up in you, not to mention the little details you notice that I overlook in my everyday routine.

Another visit I’d been looking forward to all summer happened: good friend and my former art teacher, Jason Jaspersen, came with his family. (If you haven’t seen his work, you’ll want to—here’s a link: https://www.jjjaspersen.com.)

Of course, our silly barn cat Hashbrown insisted on joining the tour. My youngest daughter, Lucy, tagged along too, a little impatient to not be heading to the library as soon as she hoped, but amused herself with the visit anyways. Before long, the phrase “Hashy leads the way!” became our motto as we marched through the grove and around the barn yard. If you’ve ever been here, you know Hashbrown—she insists on being included, but always on her own whimsical and often bossy terms.

What struck me most during their visit was how Jason and his family gave me the gift of seeing our farm with fresh eyes. I often notice the unfinished projects, but they saw the life. While in the old barn, our newest calf, Nellie, came up and started sucking on my hand. Jason said gently, “You live around beautiful animals, Leah.” In that moment, I felt how true his words were. Standing there—with friends beside me and a soft, grey calf tugging at my hand—my heart was beaming, and I carried that joyful energy with me the rest of the day.

We really do live in such a beautiful world. The animals God made showcase His incredible design, and the land He gives us to tend is full of real, tangible miracles. Sharing that with others reminds me why we do what we do as regenerative farmers: to raise good, nutrient dense food, yes, but also to cultivate gratitude, connection with others, and healing on this little piece of earth.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me! Your visits, your tables, your families—all of it helps me see the beauty anew.

With gratitude,
Leah and family

Farm Fresh Sheet

I’ve been reflecting lately on how I connect with you here. Just like the seasons change, the way I share farm offerings with you is shifting too. Next week I’ll be announcing a small but meaningful change to our "Farm Fresh Sheet" —something that feels more aligned with the size of our farm and the kind of rhythm I want to share. Stay tuned!
