God. Family. Work. (In that order)

Hey there Reader,

Yesterday morning, Benjamin and I walked the dairy cows in from the far west pasture, our knees dripping with morning dew, racing to finish chores before church. It brought to mind an old bit of American farm history: families used to tie up the milk cow on Saturday night so they wouldn’t miss church Sunday morning. Now that’s priorities.

This morning our family read a daily devotion together at breakfast for the first time in a long while. It struck me just how easily something so important — gathering as a family in God’s Word — can slip aside in the busyness of life.

Since I was little, I’ve been taught this order:
God first. Family second. Work third.
This is the traditional order of priorities — putting faith first, then relationships at home, then vocation.
But if I’m honest, work and its demands so often pushes its way into first place.

This season, I’m choosing to tighten my to-do list so that I have time for the things that truly matter: staying rooted in God’s Word, being present with my family, and still serving you — our farm community — to the very best of my God-given abilities.

This has been on my heart for awhile, and after more than a year of sending out a weekly Farm Fresh Sheet, I’ve decided to retire that section at the end of these messages. As a small farm, keeping a consistent year-round inventory is challenging (those of you waiting on eggs know exactly what I mean!) and it was starting to feel forced.

Instead of a weekly product list, here’s what you can still expect from me every Monday:

  • Short stories from life on the farm
  • Recipes that nourish deeply (I’m diving into the Nourishing Wise Traditions way of eating, so good)
  • Encouragement for your body and soul
  • And yes, a sprinkle of art and music — because the beauty in this world begs to be shared.

When it’s time to buy, I’ll let you know. Our offerings follow a seasonal rhythm:

  • Monthly Meat CSA opens in December (for August/September 2026 start)
  • Beef Shares open in February (for summer 2026 pickup)
  • Pork Shares open in March (for fall 2026 pickup)

In the meantime, I always have raw milk, cheese cultures, yogurt starter, rennet, and cheesemaking supplies on hand — a little nod to my dairy-girl roots. Just give me a call, email, or text and we’ll set up a time for you to stop by. Eggs will pop up occasionally for our milk customers, and every so often a small meat bundle may be available — I’ll be sure to share those here first.”

I’m also leaning more into speaking events and 1:1 mentorship with new regenerative farmers. So many people are hungry for this life, and it excites me to walk alongside them. I truly believe American agriculture can change one farm at a time, and I’m thankful to be part of that journey.

Whether you’ve been here from the start or you just joined us, thank you. You’re part of something meaningful — rooted in faith, family, and honest work.

With gratitude,
Leah
